The 13th Annual Holiday Festival was a great success last week. I believe we had a record number of attendees this year. It is a tremendous job that involves tons of planning and teamwork, and we are deeply grateful to all who made it possible. Thank you again to the many establishments that generously donated food and raffle gifts. Please see the attached list and take the time to return the favor by supporting and thanking them. To our NIA afterschool program and PTA for their donations and support, and to the pre-planners and student helpers who decorated, prepped the cafeteria, and carried food. We appreciate the staff members who solicited donations, made decorations, stayed late to decorate, organized and wrapped raffles, and spent the day running errands and completing pick-ups. Most especially Mr. Zak, who not only facilitated many of the pickups, but also did so with a smile on his face and with the follow up question of “how else can he help?” Thank you to our kitchen staff for their support and for allowing us to use the school kitchen, and to all who handled set-up and clean-up. Our event managers—including the raffle team, food servers, kitchen crew, face painters, school mascot, student performers, dance students and Spirit Squad – who all brought the entire evening to life. Thank you to our school safety agents and custodial staff for their diligence and commitment to creating a safe environment for all. A special spotlight goes to Santa, played by our own Mr. Gulino, who brought much joy, excitement and holiday magic to our students and their families.

We also extend a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Simoes, our grand taskmaster, who contributed her time, talent and unwavering dedication to ensuring that the event ran smoothly and coordinated our volunteers who helped feed over 500 people! And finally, and to the one person who envisioned this event 13 years ago and has successfully brought it to life every year since. She begins planning in September, pours her heart into every detail, and inspires an entire community to come together. She is the heart of CAV, our queen bee, master and commander, and the maestro of this enormous undertaking: Ms. Chris! Our staff, students and families are so fortunate to have her.

As temperatures drop, please be sure your children dress warmly by wearing layers and appropriate winter clothing. According to DOE guidelines, outdoor play will continue whenever possible, even during colder weather. Thank you for helping keep our students safe and comfortable.
